Alabama - Texas A&M Preview

Alabama looked pretty good last week but can they duplicate it? Is Jimbo the assistant that will finally take down Saban? Here's what Andy thinks.

“Last week, Arkansas looked like a high school team against UGA, and A&M got embarrassed and lost to Mississippi State,"

Alabama - Texas A&M Preview

Another day, another tough matchup for Alabama that will ultimately end with them winning. My apologies if you were hoping for me to be unbiased or maybe even hint that Bama could lose on Saturday to Texas A&M in College Station, but that’s not gonna happen. In fact, I’ll shorten this article into one sentence in case you don’t have much time:

Who do you trust, Nick Saban or Jimbo Fisher?

For those of you that kept reading, A) Thank you, and B) Why bother?

Three weeks ago, I was writing to you all about how Alabama had serious defensive woes to worry about with Ole Miss coming up. Now, we all see how that worked out, a 42-21 shellacking that was never as close as the final score makes it seem. In that same article, I mentioned how the Bama offense was in for a huge challenge when this weekend rolled around with an impressive Aggie defense. A few weeks sure can make someone look stupid.

Texas A&M is just not good, folks. After a tough loss to Arkansas, people were giving A&M a pass. Most people said “Wow, Arkansas is for real. They could be a problem in the West”. Absolutely no one criticized Texas A&M as bad, and that couldn’t have been more wrong. Last week, Arkansas looked like a high school team against UGA, and A&M got embarrassed and lost to Mississippi State, who I thought was the worst team in the SEC West. I was wrong. They’re the second-worst team, behind Texas A&M.

Jimbo Fisher somehow got the national and southeastern media to buy in and believe, despite losing the talent that they lost last year, that his team was still a top-10 team. Jimbo isn’t a bad coach, but the fact is that this isn’t a team for him to be proud of. There is rebuilding to be done, and no matter how good of a defense he has, the SEC’s offenses are too good to be held in check. You have to score in this league unless you have a historic defense i.e. Georgia.

This is going to be a good, old-fashioned butt-kicking. The Aggies can run the ball effectively, but that’s the only bright spot. They average 23.4 points per game and only 390 yards per game. Their defense, supposedly the strength of this team, hasn’t held up after an easy start to the season with Kent State, Colorado, and New Mexico. The Aggies have given up 20+ in back-to-back games against an Arkansas team that is meh at best outside of their running game, and the Mississippi State Air Raid, also meh.

Alabama’s offense is the best they will see all year, bar none. Elite is the term that comes to mind. And if Bama puts out the defense they did against Ole Miss, A&M may not even score until the subs are in. You think Will Anderson and Phil Mathis are afraid of *checks notes* Zach Calzada? He sounds like a made up name from NCAA 14. Isaiah Spiller and Devon Achane are serviceable running backs, but Bama will load the box due to the complete lack of respect they have for any Texas A&M passing game and shut them down.

Alabama flexed their muscles against Ole Miss last week. The Rebels/Black Bears were trounced up and down the field, and now Bama fans should get to just relax until November. Get used to articles like these, because no one at 1102 Coliseum Drive in Tuscaloosa has any real reason for worry this week.
