The Opening Line (Week 4)
Welcome to the First Opening Line for Rant On. My name is Nick Newton and I’m here to give you guys winners every week. If you guys end up trusting me, give me a follow on the Action App! Anyway, let’s get started on this week’s games.
1) Wisconsin (-6) vs Notre Dame O/U 45.5
College GameDay will be here for this game. Wisconsin really hasn’t played well this year. That's not saying Notre Dame has played any better. Playing at a neutral site, and weather being an issue, I would lean more towards the under. With that being said, I can’t see Wisconsin winning this game by more than 6 points.
Pick: Notre Dame +6
2) Texas A&M (-5.5) vs Arkansas O/U 47
Two teams trying to prove they are the 2nd best team in the SEC west. Two starters on Arkansas’ offensive line are questionable to play this week. If Texas A&M wants to prove they are the 2nd best team in the SEC West, they’re going to have to prove that by stopping the slightly terrifying Arkansas rushing attack. I could see this line dropping to around -3 before kickoff. Another neutral site game and I can see this game going either way.
Pick: Arkansas +5.5, Arkansas ML (if you’re feeling risky)
3) UTSA vs Memphis (-3)
UTSA has been an absolute wagon this year. Memphis has had a lot of issues on defense, being ranked 112th in tackles for loss per game. UTSA has only 1 weakness and that’s pass blocking. UTSA will be able to move the ball pretty easily with Frank Harris and future NFL running back Sincere McCormick. Memphis on the offense side of the ball is one dimensional in Calvin Austin lll. Stop Austin and you’ve stopped the Tigers.
Pick: UTSA +3
4) Chargers vs Chiefs (-6.5)
In the last 5 out of 6 games between these two, the winner has come down to the final few minutes of the game. The Chiefs haven’t covered in what seems like forever. This game has shoot-out written all over it and whoever has the ball last will win.
Pick: Chargers +6.5
5) Bucs (-1) vs Rams
The line started in the rams favor at 1.5 and it quickly flipped the other way. We might very easily see both the teams again in the NFC playoffs later this year. Yes, the Rams on paper look more complete as a team with Stafford than Goff at QB on offense. However, they haven’t really looked that good on defense as the Colts and Bears have moved the ball with ease against them. But at the end of the day, it’s Tom Brady vs Matthew Stafford. Not to mention, Stafford isn’t used to playing in big games. Never bet against Tom.
Pick: Bucs -1
